I picked up Spider-Man 2, ready to swing, And finally, I don’t owe Sony a thing. No logins, no sign-ups, no data to share, Just me and the city, wind in my hair. No emails, no numbers, no corporate grips, Just web-slinging fun with acrobatic flips. No gatekeeping nonsense, no hoops in my way, Just me and Manhattan to seize the day. We made some noise, they had to see, Now Spidey swings, hassle-free.

Remember when Insomniac Games said: "it will never appear on Xbox or PC. It's a permanent PS4 exclusive publisher by Sony Interactive Entertainment" ? . . Welp, now we got all 3 of 'em

No wonder they did zero advertising for this PC Port... Crashing every 10 minutes. Big disappointment. "A problem has occurred with your display driver. This can be caused by out of date drivers, using game settings higher than your GPU can handle, an overheating GPU, or an error with the game. Please try updating your graphics drivers, or lowering your in-game settings. My PC: NVIDIA RTX 4090 (Newest Driver 572.16), I7 13700KF, DDR 5 32GB 6000MHz

Won't recommend it now with the amount of graphical issues, bugs and crashes

EDIT: Ladies, Gentlemen, Otherly Decideds, it seems we have an Alien: Colonial Marines Typo Situation again. If you go into the base game directory and shunt two files "dstorage.dll" and "dstoragecore.dll" into a new folder, a lot of the game's most serious issues that I've reported oddly.... go away. I hope the porting team at Nixxes implements a better, more permanent solution, but I'm delighted to be able to get to work on a more FUN version of this review in time. Hold off on buying until they get a couple of stabilization patches out because holy hell. To say this is "rough" is an understatement. Lighting doesn't load in some cutscenes, those same scenes run at seconds-per-frame, audio desync issues up the wazoo, freezing, stuttering, and just about every other performance issue I can think of. I'm gonna get a refund for now because frankly, there's other stuff I could use $70 for right now.

I guess this game must like my setup because I haven't really experienced any of the performance issues other players have been reporting after updating my drivers. I only have an RTX 3060 lol. Performance aside, this is easily the best game in the whole series in terms of both gameplay and story. I wish Venom would stick his giant tongue down my throat. Nixxes even finally got rid of that weird physics/ragdoll bug from the last two games where objects and defeated enemies would magnetize straight down to the ground for no reason. Great game :)

Beware: The game installs the Playstation PC SDK/PSPC SDK Runtime on the first launch without any pop-up or option to decline. The game works fine without it it shows an error message on startup, but you can ignore it. This software is only used for data collection. Thanks, Sony. How to uninstall the crap software: Open the Control Panel. Click on "Uninstall a program." Search for "Playstation PC SDK" and uninstall it. Go to the game folder and delete the following files: "PsPcSdkRuntimeInstaller.msi" "PsPcSdkRuntimeManager.msi" "install_pspc_sdk_runtime.bat" Now you can enjoy the game without Sonys crap software. As a bonus, you might notice a slight performance boost.(For me, I gained 5 FPS and the game runs more stable overall.) Edit: When you uninstall the software, the achievements don't work anymore. It's not a big deal for me. Thanks to the users who commented on this review Edit2: the achievements works now without the crap software for me Apparently a general bug in the game. There are only 9,000 left to fix.

After my excitement to swing through New York City, I ran into significant technical problems with Spider-Man 2 on my RTX 4090. Despite having a high-end GPU and running the latest NVIDIA drivers (566.36), the game frequently crashes with graphics controller errors. This happens even with GPU temperatures at a completely normal 54°C. I've tried various fixes including: Updating to the latest drivers Lowering graphics settings Verifying game files Running in different compatibility modes Unfortunately, these issues persist and make the game nearly unplayable. When it does work, the gameplay and visuals are stunning, but the constant crashes make it impossible to enjoy the experience. It's particularly frustrating given that my system exceeds the recommended specifications by a considerable margin. Until these technical issues are patched, I cannot recommend this game, especially at full price. Wait for stability updates before purchasing.

Even after a patch this game is entirely unplayable. im on lowest of all settings on a 3080ti double checked every driver and everything to optimize performance and frames and i still cant get through the first fing cut scene??????? this is absolutely insulting.

A personal disclaimer because I am tired of people saying this: THE GAME IS OPTIMIZED ON THE GPU AT LEAST. A FEW FEATURES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO ME ARE JUST A BIT BROKEN RIGHT NOW. Also I have settings that work well for me towards the end of the review for anyone who needs it. I was extremely excited for this game, and while the game play is good; unfortunately, the technical state of this port is poor. DLSS is broken and causes significant dithering on hair and shadows (only ray traced.) There is also a significant cost (7%) associated with ray reconstruction on my 4070 (both with CNN and transformer) which just doesn't seem right. Frame gen is almost a must to avoid CPU related issues. This is all barring the constant crashes. The game has crashed 5 times for me now, it's been an hour. I have a relatively high end PC: R5 7600, 32GB RAM (6000MT/s), RTX 4070 and an NVME drive with 6600MB/s sequential read speeds (along with my CPU this far exceeds the capabilities of the PS5.) I run Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing at 1440p, DLSS Balanced with frame gen at an 80 fps average with 70fps 1% lows. This game has no reason to be struggling as much as it is, really. WAIT FOR A PATCH BEFORE BUYING! Addressing a few things I have read in the comments (kept them open for a reason hehe): 1. This is RELATIVELY high end. An objectively high end system would be 4070ti Super+ on Nvidia and 7900XTX+ on AMD. But, we live in a world where most people have a 3060, 4060, 1650, etc and the PS5 is a 2070 super equivalent with ray tracing enabled. 2. To the people telling me to turn down my settings - I did! After I got back from work - working on an ASIC (im in computer engineering lmao, know some people in the comments will find this hard to believe.) HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR NVIDIA USERS: Ray reconstruction is currently, definitely broken. It is what is causing the excessive dithering. The 7% performance loss when turning RR on did not come from RR; but, rather, you cannot use RR with High RTAO and High Reflections. These settings will automatically be locked to Very High once you turn RR on. That is why I did not see any real performance difference between Legacy and Transformer models. I have been playing with it off, and it has been running smooth. 3. DLSS Frame Generation is definitely the culprit for my crashes. From what I can see on the overlay on MSI afterburner when such a crash occurs, it doesn't seem like a VRAM buffer issue. I wonder if memory is being allocated in RAM in the past (when and if the buffer is exceeded) that cannot be reached in the future? The thing is, I have seen cards with far larger VRAM buffers crashing with frame generation, so I'm not sure what it is. 4. I have already reported these issues on my end, and will make official bug posts when I have the time. My intention here is to help consumers who want to keep enjoying this otherwise excellent game, or to tell other consumers who are maybe expecting a better experience to wait just a bit longer. Some positives just to even this out: - This game is absolutely stunning. With and without ray tracing. Barring the significant issues with newer technologies such as RR, the rasterization performance and quality is superb. - The game IS CPU heavy, and I have never denied that. It is CPU heavy because there is a significant amount of NPCs, cars, etc being loaded and unloaded from the GPU. Adding ray tracing on top, where the BVH structure is being re calculated constantly, is a massive burden as well. However, I have never seen my CPU usage exceed 60%. Some cores lay idle, while others are doing all the work. I have seen this on a R7 7700 as well. I don't expect this on a 12 thread system, when the PS5, FOR EXAMPLE, has 16 threads. You can always turn down the crowd density and level of detail settings down and this well help a lot. Why is this a positive? Because it makes the world feel SO LIVELY! - The settings menu is the best I have ever seen, nothing less. The explanations of what each setting does is accurate and to the point. I am sure a layperson could understand it with little to no issues. The fact that you can see the result of changing a setting in real time is great. - The game is extremely accessible. Finally, here are the settings I am currently using to get a locked 60 at 1440p on my rig (1% lows around 58.): - DLSS: Quality - DLSS FG: Off - Texture Quality - Very High (I haven't tested it extensively, but if you really want to use frame gen consider turning this down to save on VRAM, this MIGHT work.) - Texture Filtering - 16x (wouldn't bother turning this down unless you're on an iGPU. - Shadow Quality - Very High (you can turn this down to high) - LOD - Very High - Traffic Density - High (Idc about car density in new york that much.) - Crowd Density - Very High (Important to me to make new york believable.) - Hair Quality - High - SSR - High - Weather Particle Quality - Very High (effects untested) - RT Reflections - High - RT Interiors - High - RT Shadows - Medium - RTAO - High - RT Object range - 7 (below 7 doesn't give me much CPU overhead and I get a few more objects in the BVH with 7.) - DLSS RR - Off This will be the last time I update this review until, at least, frame generation is fixed - after which I will ammend the review, and recommend the game. Thank you all for reading!

HORRIBLY unoptimized, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Seriously, not even when it's on discount. My computer is no slouch; I don't have a 4k monitor, so I only run games in 1080p. My computer can run most games, modern or old on max settings for 144hz. My computer doesn't even struggle with the notoriously unoptimized port of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, but this game still manages to best my computer. I run on a Rtx 4060TI with 32 GB of ram, and even on MINIMUM settings with literally everything turned off, this game lags consistently, and pauses every few moments of gameplay to load things in. On top of that, buildings and people are unrendered, cutscenes lag and jump all over the place, characters pop in and out of existence, and even the pause menu freezes and lags. Shame on you, Insomniac games, and shame on Steam for keeping this abominiation of a port for sale on their store, especially at full price. Do NOT buy this

Stop releasing games that aren't finished. Nixxes dropped the ball hard with this port. Performance is all over the place. Ray Tracing is broken in many places. Cut scenes frame rate jumps all over the place. 3080, no ray tracing, DLSS balanced and struggling to hit 60fps in some areas. Nixxes are you high?

An Honest Review: I want to get this out of the way quickly Regarding the 1 star reviews I've seen online. The most consistent issue I see that people have with this game is the WOKE factor, which I'm telling you now doesn't exist. Spiderman has always been about community, and I am not sorry to say this but people of all walks of life exist inside of that community, not just the people you want to see. If you cant stand to see two people regardless of any gender express their love for each other, or simply exist, then it appears you have a personal issue much larger than the game your upset about. Maybe seek counseling for your intolerance and rage. Graphics: Well if you made it to this part, I'd like to talk about the game graphics, I run MSI 3050, which sadly to my understanding was not enough, so I reduced my settings to medium, where it now runs fine. Not salty about it, just a gentle push into upgrading. The game before froze on me several times, now I have had zero issues. I think the graphics are great even on medium, I see a lot of complaints about its not the best of the best but that's a matter of opinion, if your sad about shadows maybe play something else? For the function of playing a game its all been good for me. My only confusion comes from web screens and newspapers in the game sometimes are really choppy, pixely so you cant read them with the character but maybe that's intentional. Lastly probably just a bug running on lower settings but often trails Miles needs to follow don't show up at all. Weird. Mechanics: I would have liked to see the gadgets for 2 spider-pals increased and more customizable maybe interchangeable 10 variants with versatile upgrade nodes, but its not a deal breaker or anything. Still fun to crowd control with web bombs. Speaking of which it is weird that during car chases you use a web bomb ball to stop the car but they cant be used in combat. Similar tech but not the same. I like that they didn't change much for combat keeps the consistency of it, but they adapted more abilities into the wheel which was refreshing. Miles feels much weaker than Peter which I think is true to the feeling of the story. Story: I'm about 80% completion currently and I'd like to say I'm impressed with the way that first half of the game splits the time and feeling of gameplay between the two hero's. However their is a pretty heavy shift halfway through to focus on Peter and Kraven. Which makes 100% sense to me as he is the main character but I feel for Miles fans who wanted more spotlight for him. Several missions in after halfway, even Miles starts to feel left out and that's great from a written story angle because the game makes you feel the way our hero's feel. I also appreciate the heavy focus on Miles story where he connects with his community and we get an insight into musical history. Exploration: The largest highlight for me is the exploration, the world is alive around you and the constant crime fighting, collectible finding and sub-story shenanigans is the real meat and potato's for me here and has always been my favorite part of these games, there's a seemingly never ending supply of things to do as my favorite hero and that's just awesome. Thanks for Reading. Be Excellent to Eachother! Edit: The overwhelming amount of negative comments has led me to believe disabling comments to be the best choice, silence is Golden. Stay positive out there folks. Edit 2: 100% The Game took me 40.7 Hours total before NG+ NG+ on Spectacular as a SpeedRun Story Only, took 9 hours flat. I'm not fully convinced that a second 100% is worth Golden Gadgets, however the Suit Fusion upgrades and the additional suits you get from Ultimate Levels totally are. Happy Hunting Everyone.
