I’ve never been so mad at a game in my entire life. I just rage quit for the first time ever playing a game. So much potential. I love the concept of this game... HOWEVER, The controls are so incredibly bad it feels like they were designed by an energy vampire that gets off on my absolute rage trying to simply retrieve some food that is stuck in a chest and cannot be retrieved while I starve at an exceedingly fast rate. “Full Controller Support” is an absolute lie. update: I saw the recent update, and decided to see if they fixed any related issues. Hunger, definitely reduces at a better rate. Unfortunately... this update fully broke steam deck playability, because everything is now so pixelated it's illegible. Now can't even play handheld. Fun!

Died to the final boss in a dungeon. Fine. Spawned back at my house. Not fine. Sorry, done with games that waste my time.

The dodge button is your friend. In fact, it isn't just your friend, it's your BEST friend. Talk to it, eat with it, sle.. uh. On that note, if you can't find the button, you better google it, because that button needs pressing, touching, caressing, it's your life line and you better make damn sure it's happy. Move over companion cube, in fact, never heard of a companion cube, what's that? There's only one companion for you, and that's Dodge Button. And on a less serious note. The game is cute, has a bit of a learning curve in terms of controls, really needs a two player function, and if you've ever played "My Time at Portia" it's even less demanding than that. Buy it, buy it and become endentured to your dodge button.

I had to quit. The twitch mania parkour towards the end game was too much. A long parkour course that forces you to return to the beginning after every fail. I don't want to take the time to "git gud"... Enough is enough. I'm done with it.

Day 1: I don't get it, what am I supposed to do in this game? Day 2: Okay, I've found some cave, contributed to the Mayor and there are new buildings in town. I still don't know what to do in this game. Day 3: I'm running out of berries to pick! I'm not panicking! I'm not panicking. Day 4: I've finally figured out how to fish and hunger is not an issue. Mmmm, roasted fish. Day 5: I upgraded the workbench. Now I can craft a ship. Or a raft. Not much difference. Ahoy, landlubbers! Day 6: Sardines are a great source of protein and don't need to be cooked, which is a huge merit. Day 7: Ha, what is that on this new island I've discovered? Another mysterious cave with mysteries to unsolve? Man this game is amazing.

Looks like a nice enough game, but I cannot recommend it in its current state. It runs really poorly on a mac. 1) It does not understand what retina scaling is. When I set a 1920x1080 resolution in game, I expect UI elements, especially text, to remain nice and crisp. Instead, it's a messy blur. 2) Performance is very poor. Why do I get only ~30 fps with dips to ~10 in 1920x1080? I have a decent eGPU, and graphics in this game is very simple. And if I set resolution to native 2160, I get 10-15 fps, no more. This is not OK, please make an effort to make it run nice and smooth.

Thank you for the free weekend (21 June 2025), I've been watching Len's Island since before it's Early Access launch and wish you the best of luck with further development. Unfortunately I can't recommend the game at this time. I believe it has potential and will change my review if some of the issues below are addressed. First, there is an infrequent crash when enter/exiting caves and some infrequent performance dips. I could honestly deal with this if it weren't for all the issues below. There are quality of life things missing which I expect in this genre of game nowadays, particular one that had years of early access feedback from the community. This was the most disappointing aspect of the experience for me. The below issues make Len's Island too tedious for my taste in it's current state: 1. There is no quick stashing for storage. Not even a way to just hold a button to dump a whole stack. You have to manually move stacks around. It feels a little dated. 2. You cannot craft from storage. Materials must be in your direct inventory. Wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for point 1. 3. You can't move building pieces/furniture once they're placed. You have to destroy them and rebuild them. You do get a full refund but still, if that's the case why not just let the player move the building piece? 4. Controller support was promised but it appears to be only partially implemented. Whenever a menu button comes up you have to move the joystick like it's controlling the mouse pointer. You then have to hold the joystick down to manually turn this mode off. Every single time. I kept having to switch back to keyboard and mouse anyway because, for example, there is no indication of how to eat food with controller. You'll have to keep managing this everytime there is pop up dialogue or buttons to push. 5. You can move the camera but it won't stay put. It has the fixed angle that keeps returning to facing downwards which is not great when you want to look ahead, especially when sailing. 6. Arrows have hard-stop collision with small plants and shrubs. Archery feels quite bad as a result. I'm not talking about trees or big bushes, that makes sense to me. The game is played from a high-angle, so you'd assume your character would be firing over the smaller ground foliage like flowers but nope. You'll be hunting, line up what you think is the perfect direct shot, and the arrow will come to a complete stop on a knee-high herb. The deer will run across the map and the arrow-proof grass is everywhere. You'll end up just chasing them with your sword out of frustration. That being said there are some really great elements in Len's Island and the developer has been awesome by allowing a free trial. I recommend checking it out while it's free and making up your own mind. But in my opinion it would benefit from a few more patches and QoL features before I'd say it's worth the price.

UPDATE: Please, read the most recent comments for an update. There is a map now, but the game's performance is still atrocious and the motion-sickness inducing camera shake is still present. Recommended alternatives: Force of Nature 2, The Warhorn. This game does not have any kind of map or mini-map, - you are going completely blindly. It was originally in the road map to be implemented later, however, in a recent YouTube post the dev said his game is too small and adding a map would reduce gameplay time drastically to about 1/5th, which means he wants you to wander around in 80% of your playtime trying to find your way. He also said he has no intention to add a map, which is completely going back on his word he gave in the road map months ago. Do not trust this dev! I realize this might not be a big issue for everyone, however, I believe the conventions of this game genre require the existence of a map, as it goes without saying in most other games. The fact that the lack of it is not pointed out anywhere makes this game a scam in my personal opinion. The only reason I can't refund this game now is that I'm out of the 2 weeks within which this is possible, BECAUSE I've been waiting on a promised map that the dev just canceled very recently with an utterly unreasonable explanation.

Not very interesting game, while I love hack and slash games this game does add base building to it, the problem I have is you cant build your base anywhere it has to be next to a body of water if you want the farming automated with watering itself, I built my base in the middle of the land with no water nearby so I cant have automated farm base. I unlocked the second dungeon but I have already learned the max buildings there is to build in the game, seems kinda early to unlock everything already?? not much to the game either, they just add mobs for difficulty, the first dungeon for instance, you can turn it into a harder dungeon after but its just mob density they add, they think its a good game when the boss battle comes and you have to deal with 4 nests 4-5 big mobs and a tower with aimbot firing 4 bolts of spells at you at once... game became tedius after a while tbh and a slow grind fest after the first few hours.

Below is diary of 32 minutes of my epic journey through Len's Island, it was amazing! Enjoy! Game starts with presenting 5 predefined difficulty levels. I know those, seen them before. Those are not well balanced and thought diff levels like some games have. Those are 'we don't know what we are doing, and what experience player should have, so we pass the burden of figuring this out down to our players" types of difficulties. It already starts great isn't it? I'm trying to figure in this mess what I want, maybe I can nail it first try so I will not need to restart the game mid run and waste my time. Oh nice, found one very interesting setting: on normal merchants buy and sell, on higher diff they only do one of those. Amazing! I heroically choose my difficulty level and proceed. Now I need to choose body type and... wait what... this is not how female body looks like... what is this xD Amazing! Finally game starts. Pick stones, chop trees, get food, the usual. I pick first thing and immediately get achievement. Amazing! We are winning Son! Tutorial is kinda mind blowing, mostly because it starts from task of building your house. Ye. This game starts from that. You would think that us monkeys like to decide where to place it. We want to check for beautiful spots or location rich with resources, or nice logistics. The usual, you know. So I ignore tutorial for some time and check most of the map for nice spot. Well it turns out the devs of this game know it better than me (Amazing!) and were right (even more Amazing!). There is no special or nice spot for housing. All is bland and uninteresting. So actually I can just dump my house wherever. Amazing! I build my house from aggressively mid tiles. During the process I learn that game has pretty unique inventory system. I thought I've seen them all but no, this one is new. Amazing! I give it a name: 'the bad one'. After finishing most unremarkable house ever I go to town. YES! Finally some npcs, lore and dialogues! Welp... Nope. You want to know what happened and why you are here? Nope. You want to read something interesting? Nope. At this point I take 2min break to contemplate why some devs take their time to implement dialogue system when they don't want to write anything even remotely worth reading. But, but, but! Devs wanted to be creative so they added different trading system than most games have! Isnt it great? This one I name: 'the annoying one'. Mostly because instead of getting some nice shop menu that is easy to navigate you need to mouse over every object close to traider to see if its for sale and how much is it. Why to use something that works when you can be creative and reinvent the wheel? (break it in the process) Amazing! Frankly above things are not maybe the best signs but what about "Pick stones, chop trees, gather berries" part? It's core gameplay of most survival/building games. So how does it feel? You guessed it right! It's AMAZING! It's amazing how after so many years of development and in this price tag THIS SHIT IS SO BAD. Berries and bushes don't even have their dedicated animations, instead you get combat attack animation that moves your character constantly forward so you will miss lots of hits on top of this looking totally unimmersive and feeling awkward. Chopping trees has at least its dedicated animation but it doesn't feel much better. God, what a journey! I'm happy Steam has its refund policy because this game in its state is not worth more than 4$, and def not worth my time. Amazing!

Yet another unfinished early-access game. Lots broken mechanics, bugs and problems with ergonomics. However, all of these issues might not be that important if it would be interesting to play. Unfortunately.

Fun game but really needs a coop/multiplayer!

Played for maybe 2 hours then left the game paused. Apparently leaving it paused overnight makes steam think you've played the game for several days so I was unable to return the game. Yes it's early access but even taking that into consideration there is not much to do. In its current state this feels like something someone threw together in a few weeks then decided to release as early access. This game needs several more months of development before it's worth spending money on.

*Edit* Having slept on it I decided to give it another go. I'm still annoyed with the lack of care they took which wiped many people's saves. However, the game has promise, I like the style, I like the premise - fair warning though, the game is very very light in content right now, it's an early access of course so that's to be expected, but there's a pretty long way to go before it's a complete game. Invested £19 and 9 hours into the game, when I lost most of my progress due to a very buggy badly tested update today. I'm not very happy. It's not always easy for me to get time to play games so having 9 hours over last couple of days be wasted like that is quite annoying.

For everyone giving this bad reviews and crapping all over it - what part of EARLY ACCESS don't you understand? Yes it's unpolished. No it doesn't have much content. Wait for the game to be FINISHED before you take a dump on it. For what it is so far it's quite good especially for a survival game in a market that's oversaturated with survival games.

This Game Has Received More Love Than a Golden Retriever at a Kids’ Party

About four or five years ago, when I played Len’s Island for the first time, it had just one town and one dungeon. Since then, I’ve been watching it evolve from a part-time, almost hobby-like project into a lovingly crafted indie release. I think everybody can get a good grasp of the game just from the screenshots, so I’ll just add some points beyond that. - Outside of visiting dungeons, the game can be played "at your own pace" at all times. There is never a feeling of a "timer running." Even the day and night cycle doesn’t interfere with your gameplay in any annoying way. - Every game mechanic that proved unenjoyable or even mildly annoying has been improved and polished over the years through close communication with the Discord community. - The crafting progression is easy to follow and always gives you enough tasks to work on, without being overwhelming. - Movement and combat are "easy to learn, tough to master." WASD + mouse feels very intuitive, and controller support was also added during development. - Len’s Island allows you to progress however you wish. You can start by just building, farming, and selling in peace for weeks or even months to make money a non-issue before taking on any islands, giving you an easier time over the course of the game. Or you can choose to take on tougher challenges early and focus more on improving your combat and movement skills. I’m now at 457 hours — with more to come — on a game that cost me 20 bucks in early access. I couldn’t have asked for more. For me, this game is a masterpiece. May you all enjoy it as I did.

Having fun, challenging yet not TOO challenging. Perhaps should mention I am 68 years old, hardest part is remembering where I am (no dungeon map, bad mine map)
