Bought this as part of a mystery game bundle to get my mad libs detective fix while I wait for the next The Rise of the Golden Idol DLC to drop.
This game's production values (art, music, voice acting, programming) are great, but they're all negated by the awful writing. The mystery here is too simple and boring for adults but also too adult-themed for children. Female players also probably won't like the overtly masculine framing of the protagonist.
Duck Detective is in this weird gray zone that will only appeal to stunted low-IQ grown men who find most mystery games too difficult and secretly long to be kids again. To be fair, this probably describes a large portion of Steam's userbase.

Terrible it’s not worth $10 maybe $5.99? But it seems to live off the hype of its predecessor. For $10 I could’ve gotten world war Z, evil within 1&2 and walking dead telltale complete edition for this price. (Zombie vs vampire fest sales) the joke are ok but that’s it don’t waste your money because so much content else where.
The voice acting is good but the story lacks anything I was expecting a murder mystery or something scarier. We didn’t even get to explore every tent or the mansion like what’s the point of that? Don’t buy this game.
Try the first one this isn’t worth it.

Like, the overall quality of the majority of it is perfectly fine, but something like this lives and dies on its comedy, and i... smirked a few times, i guess?

This is one of those cases where I wish I could give a neutral reaction, not a recommend/do not recommend. This is a cute, very easy puzzle game - it's like the Case of the Golden Idol on training wheels. The setting is what shines: the noir-esque monologues by the duck detective are fabulous, and the characters are fun. But it is only about 2 hours long, so I had actually played a large chunk of the game just by playing the demo. Basically, just make sure you're buying it at a price you would be happy to pay for 2 hours of play time, and don't expect Blue Prince-level puzzles. But the fun, sassy, cute characters and setting are appealing, even if the mystery isn't a huge one.

A clever but lightweight deducktion game about a haunted sanatorium, quirky characters and the importance of reading your correspondence...
First of all, I loved the first Duck Detective game and was pleasantly surprised when they announced this sequel of sorts, so I picked this one up with my own cash. I will have always room for another lighthearted deconstruction of the noir detective genre featuring a duck trying desperately to stay away from the white fluffy bread.. The Ghost of Glamping takes place some time after The Secret Salami where the titular Duck Detective has fallen upon hard times and shares an apartment with the friendly and fashionably challenged Freddy Frederson. To cheer the brooding detective up he brings him to a glorious glamping in the middle of the woods and in a twist of fate, shenanigans och dark dealings ensue worthy of a proper duck detective. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3486142136 The gameplay is following that sweet Obra Dinn formula of collecting clues and inserting them into a sheet of theories surrounding who's dunnit, who's who and what the hel is going on. Simply put, this is more of the same formula from the first game that I found to be on the easy side but still pretty enjoyable. There is also a story mode for those who want to play it even breezier depending on your level of sleuthing! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3486112427 The game is just as charming and easy going as the first one and the fact that it is fully voice-acted really gives the characters an extra dimension that enhances the experience. The artwork is lovely and pastelly and the story has just the right amount of twists and turns to be lighthearted but challenging. The worldbuilding continues in the game and bodes well for a future title in the series, something I do hope will come to pass. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3486112811 To be noted is that the game is kind of short, but for me that is not a problem at all. I could hold a long essay surrounding the pricing and length of modern games and how I'd rather pay a fair price for an evening of entertainment than be strung along in an endless “filler” experience with monotonous daily quests or arbitrary reasons to log in once more. Here your mileage may vary, but to me this is an indie game through and through that really deserves to get more attention, especially in the light deduction category. Conclusion: Highly recommended! A charming lightweight game about a bread addicted duck in a trenchcoat solving a mysterious mystery with his investigator friend! It is quite short, but for an evening of entertainment with a cup of tea this is absolutely perfect! So lean back, put out the lights and let the charming story and bitesize deductions sweep you away for a couple of hours. I for sure needed some light mystery in my life as the madness sweeps across the globe.Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.
