This is a game where you organise peoples houses or businesses. It's fun for a minute until your realise you're the only person in town with a functional brain.
Perfect Design - the townspeople love it!
Abysmal Design - the townspeople love it!
In one house, I literally put all the food on the floor in a kitchen and blocked the access to the rest of the house by piling baskets, and proceeded to the bedroom where i put the washer on top of the box spring on one side of the room, then took my mattress to the other side of the room and put my shelves full of items on top of that.
What did my client think? Outstanding work!! Mission Complete!
I guess I don't see the point in playing a game where I can literally plunk anything down anywhere and win. I had hoped there would be some sort of ranking system based on how well you put the house together but its entirely based on just getting the items put down.
I suppose in this game I could organise homes nicely for my own self satisfaction but I mean if I'm doing that, I may as well do the work in my real house and have something to show for it.

absolutely abysmal item placement. what do you mean some items can only face 2 directions??? what kind of sick and twisted person puts their computer IN FRONT of a window??? OR IN FRONT OF A WALL OF LOW CABINETS???? also WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE DOG SLEEPS IN THE HALL?? IM NOT EVIL!!!! im sorry you want me to put these drumsticks WHERE??? too many items and not enough sensible places to put them. this is like unpacking but it raises my heart rate instead and pisses me off!!!
i have a headache now and this game is to blame, arrrrghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The art is cute and the style of the game has charm, but the lack of a tutorial (outside of how to decorate) left me confused and lost when exploring the town. Also a loot box mechanic?? No thank you.
Some of the rooms were also way too small for the items we were given and I found myself having to clutter a lot in order to move on. Don't even get me started on the front room of the bakery.
I was hoping for a similar vibe to Unpacking but found myself bored and stressed out and not enjoying the game like I thought I would've.

This might look like Unpacking but the only similarity is the fact that you're organizing someone's belongings (for a different person in each quest). The story doesn't have the same emotional depth, it's more about decoration, organization and uncovering the weird mysteries from the town.
I finished the game so I obviously enjoyed (some of) it, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. And the fact that I had to get so many achievements to be able to finish the story also left a sour taste.
Due to the cute pixel art, many might think this is a family-friendly game, but that is NOT the case. There are some disturbing elements with the "secrets" within the game, for example as the protagonist you get some threatening letters, and in one of the first quests it is implied that the owner's dog is being drugged by a person secretly hiding in the house . I don't think this is highlighted enough in the Steam page so I'm hoping this review will be helpful for awareness.
In general I liked the quests, but for a decoration game, it was really frustrating that the only house I could customize the walls and flooring was the first one you move in to, which is also the smallest. (apart from houses from quests)
In summary, this game did not live up to my expectations.

I couldn't take my hands off of my keyboard and mouse.
When I finished the game, I felt EMPTY deep inside.
I am craving for more, it's scratching a spot I didn't even know existed. I sincerely hope that the devs will come up with a few DLCs or a new entry because I would refresh the store page frantically the day it is released in order to buy it frame 1.
Thank you for making this game.

picked it up because the art looks cool and I enjoyed the game Unpacking
it's getting a negative review at this time and I think I'm walking away for the foreseeable future because I am annoyed at the level for the music store, I don't play these kind of games because I want the game to tell me exactly where to place things, but if you're going to give me a glowing outline of the object, it is profoundly annoying for that glowing outline to not actually be where I can put the object but several pixels to the side. (because the object snaps into place when dropped)
either tell me what to do correctly, or don't tell me what to do.
also, this level might have been more reasonable as a tutorial, but putting a level where I have to follow put-thing-in-glowing-outline directions after I've already gotten the hang of doing things my way is awful. feels like being put at the kiddy table after making thanksgiving dinner.

One of those things that baffles me how it gets rated so well. You can just stack up everything in the corner of a room and be done and it makes no difference to the final outcome. I appreciate maybe the fun is meant to be in enjoying creating the room but as the game doesn't acknowledge anything I did it just feels pointless to me

Very cute very nice. Tried the pirated version for an hour then bought the game :)
Edit: Finished the game and completed all the achievements. Overall a game with relatively short playtime (10-12 hours), but it is very entertaining and not like your run-of-the-mill house designer game. There's an underlying story line and multiple side quests that makes the game feel less monotonous. Every house has its own theme and palette. The 42 hidden pieces/cursed items incentivizes you the explore the map fully.

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 383:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (9/10)
Whisper of the House is a much better Unpacking—but with a mysterious, paranormal spin. Suddenly you’re not just organizing a life, you’re uncovering one. As a cozy, home-decor sim, it hits a sweet spot where every dusty corner, mismatched painting, and forgotten trinket feels like part of a secret waiting to breathe. Also, it came out on my birthday, so of course it's going to be great :P
🚪 Pros:
- Cozy decor meets haunting secrets. On surface duty, you’re unpacking, placing furniture, helping clients move in or reorganize, and styling spaces. But there’s always a sense something’s off—hidden rooms, anomalies, whispers behind walls. That duality between comfort and unease is the game’s strongest trick. And then suddenly, you're investigating time travel portals, ghosts, and alien weirdness?!?! This game has more depth than you think.
- Creative freedom and satisfying aesthetic. This is the highlight of the game. The requirements are not as strict as in Unpacking: most missions will let you put items anywhere. And let me tell you, there are so many items in the missions, and even more when you're decorating your (multiple!) houses. There has to be at least 1,000 items in the game. The pixel art is beautiful, as well. And so colorful! The pixel art is rich and textured, every lamp, plant, or shelf feels lovingly crafted. You can tell the difference between regular milk and strawberry milk.
- Charming characters and companion robot. Mark, your robot helper, is a delight. Their expressions, little moments of panic when you pick them up by mistake—those touches make the town feel alive. NPCs and clients are simple, but their quirks give personality to the spaces you inhabit, and their designs are very sweet. There's also a guide to everyone you meet, which is very appreciated.
- Ambient audio and soundtrack. The music is cozy, but with just enough wistful tension. It's charming for sure. Visuals and sound together make late-night decorating feel evocative.
- Lots of fun and quick achievements that I don't think are missable.
- The UI (except for a little nitpick) is very good, especially when searching for items. You can sort by room or by function, and you can search things up by name. I wish, however, that the menus for searching items was bigger on the right side.
- My biggest con is that the description text over items is both extremely small and difficult to see. The text is black with a white outline, which creates a hazy effect behind the words. Sometimes the words blend in with the background. The text can def be bigger.
- Mechanics sometimes feel clunky. Rotation limitations (you sometimes can't rotate items fully), camera rules (you can’t rotate rooms), and tight spaces might frustrate your interior ambitions. But for the most part, the game is very flexible.
- Translation and dialogue roughness. A few lines feel awkward or stilted—likely due to localization. Some NPC or client text don't flow super cleanly.

‼️This game has used stolen pixel art from artist Artem Brullov that were not theirs to use ‼️ The game itself hardly ever actually plays, half the time you just get a loading screen with music playing but the game itself stops. Too many bugs/crashes to be a full launch and not early access.

https://playcritically.com/2025/09/07/whisper-of-the-house-review/
Whisper of the House is like its name: An inaudible sound, dismissed and forgotten as quickly as it is heard. Most of what is here is pilfered from other, better videogames, reused without intention or understanding. Its primary Housekeeping activity is a hollow imitator of Unpacking, devoid of heart and creativity. Its vague, adventure-style puzzles should be its most interesting feature, but the player character is given no compelling reason to seek them out. I’m determined to compliment at least one thing about Whisper of the House, and here it is: Its pixel art graphics are wonderful. The sheer number of objects available to place in houses feels like where the most care went into this videogame’s creation. A videogame needs to do more than look nice to be appealing. At this, Whisper of the House fails in every corner of its beautiful city.

This might look like Unpacking but the only similarity is the fact that you're organizing someone's belongings (for a different person in each quest). The story doesn't have the same emotional depth, it's more about decoration, organization and uncovering the weird mysteries from the town.

In general I liked the quests, but for a decoration game, it was really frustrating that the only house I could customize the walls and flooring was the first one you move in to, which is also the smallest. (apart from houses from quests)
In summary, this game did not live up to my expectations.

Game lacks tutorial or explanation of goals or even goal posts. Organising is not more than point and click but engrossing for those who like cosy games - at first.

I like the game, it gets addicting and cozy, however the story is mid and it's not spooky enough, i like the little stories but the whole game story is mid, i wish to have more tasks to design soon!

I went in expecting to just organize and decorate, 3 hours later i've left with concern for my customers safety and am wondering if making potions in a strangers house is ethical?? 10/10 lots of fun can't wait to figure out whats happening and if the world is ending.

‼️This game has used stolen pixel art from artist Artem Brullov that were not theirs to use ‼️ The game itself hardly ever actually plays, half the time you just get a loading screen with music playing but the game itself stops. Too many bugs/crashes to be a full launch and not early access.
