We all laughed at Butters for saying Hello Kitty Island Adventure was better than World of Warcraft, but 19 years later in the current state of WoW.... Butters was right.

BUTTERS WAS RIGHT! Hello Kitty Island Adventure is soooo much better than playing WoW. I can honestly say that I bought this as a joke, but it actually turned out to be a good game. It is a very chill game that has enough content to keep you busy. 10/10 listen to Butters

Butters was right, this is WAY better than World of Warcraft! This game is SUPER cute, and has the bonus of having Retsuko, you make friends, do cute stuff, explore, it's just fun.

Thought this would be a cute little game to make friends on a island but I'm just their b1tch running around doing everything for them?!?

I can confirm this is better than World of Warcraft. Also, Retsuko goes Aggretsuko, and her concert outfit is an unlockable. That's all you really need to know.

thanks butters for the game recommendation! after starting the game off with a very violent and traumatizing plane crash, i found myself on a pretty cool island with some cool fellas. once i started running around and doing tasks for these people, they befriended me and now we're homies. 11/10, solid game :P

Butters was absolutely correct, He should be curating content on steam for all of us. This is a game I never thought I would be playing but as soon as I saw the similarities to Animal Crossing and other games, I was hooked. I shamelessly bought the game and don't mind leaving my online status active while I play for hours on end. The game definitely has the cute Hello Kitty vibe going on and plays very similar to Animal Crossing. The art style is what you would expect from Hello Kitty and it is done well. The accompanying music adds to the chill nature of the game with plenty of tracks to choose from and experience. The game-play replicates familiar ideas from similar games while injecting its own flavor into the mix giving it a familiar but slightly fresh feel. You will get locked into hours of clearing out your island of usable crafting materials and currency to craft gifts, furniture, upgrades, equipment, and customization options. You will need to increase friendships to advance the story and unlock more equipment and areas. Just when you think you've unlocked the Island, it throws a few more new areas for you to explore and new items and characters to find. There is a lot to explore and do here. One aspect I really enjoyed was the visitors feature. It works similar to Animal Crossing, but has been expanded on even more, adding more depth and making it even more rewarding to try and collect and craft everything in the game. In Animal Crossing you had single visitor that would show up that you try and appease for several days to eventually move them into a home on your island. The visitor was always random and you just needed an empty home to throw them in. They would move in and the house would be decorated automatically with a theme that fit the character. In Hello Kitty they expanded and improved on this idea while adding more reward to collecting everything. You now have several cabins on the island you can purchase and eventually upgrade for more space. There is a list of rotating visitors but in order to get them to visit the island you need to have a cabin ready for them that meets all their requirements. Some of the requirements are the cabins location on the map, types of furniture in the home, types of items placed on surfaces in the home, and basic themes that match the personalities of the character looking to visit. This makes collecting all the furniture, recipes, and items a must if you want to get people to permanently stay in your paradise or visit for more rewards. You are now managing a community of households and decorating them per the needs of the characters looking to stay. I find myself not just looking to collect one piece of everything but as many pieces I can get my hands on. I am even more of a fiend at looting and collecting than others games. There are mini-games you will find on the island that are enjoyable on your first experience. They eventually end up being tasks that are added to the daily grind. They aren't as crucial to do every day but it is worth it to at least check out the offered prizes for any missing items in your collection. I tend to only play them if there is something I really want. There are also ruins to find and explore that basically act as a bunch of very easy/simple puzzles. You will look to complete them all to collect their rewards but the challenge is completely absent, it doesn't require much thought to complete them and loot the spoils. You will clear them out for the loot and forget about them forever. All in all, this game is worth spending all your time on the internet playing instead of World of Warcraft. Don't hesitate to buy, you will enjoy.

As a man in my mid-thirties with a penchant for geography, Budweiser beer, and the occasional philosophical rabbit hole, I did not expect to find myself utterly enchanted by Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Here I am, an unabashed convert, singing its praises with the fervor of a child discovering magic for the first time. All the stress that an adult accumulates from everyday tasks is simply washed away by the waves of the pastel-drenched beaches of the island. It quenches my thirst for hoarding items and creatures as if laws didn't exist, despite knowing the false sense of progress. This game has given me serenity, as though God has taken me to the light and given me paradise. Am I dead? Sure feels like it, but sometimes it's just what a grown man needs.

This is what Marines play when we bring our Steam Decks on deployments. As a 37 year old man, I love this game. After shooters and fighting games, only Hello Kitty can relax me. Ah finally! The world of Warcraft killer! After all, why not make love not Warcraft?! At least some of us had to move on from WoW. 💅 In 2020 Animal Crossing SAVED my mental state and me and this country are at a bad spot again, so this came to Steam at the perfect time!! This game is like the direction I wished the Animal Crossing series had evolved into. They had like half the planet addicted to the game at the start of the pandemic and did nothing with it. I'm by no means neck deep in Hello Kitty, but I bought the game anyway because it answered the completely unnecessary but wonderfully interesting question: "What if Hello Kitty moved to Animal Crossing?" From the first day I got it, as a grown man I genuinely couldn’t believe I had just bought it. I expected some half-assed, cash grabby, insignificant game made by another big name company. I was so wrong! I am still a big AC fan, but they need to take notes about this game. I liked it so much that after playing it all day on that first day I even said to my wife’s boyfriend, who was interested in getting it, that this game for me it's far better than Animal Crossing with everything they've done to it. Hello Kitty Island adventure is an amazing cozy game. Perhaps the best I have ever played in the genre. It's an excellent mix of the best elements of the best cozy games along with a lot of things I personally haven't seen in any other game. Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Little wood, My time at series. This game has a little bit from every other great cozy game before it and makes them all work together seamlessly. The map, it's huge. Possibly bigger than Stardew and definitely bigger than AC. Just know that if you look up a photo of the already huge map, you won't even be seeing half of the game. The content. How long to beat has this game at 18 hours. How? I'm already more than 50 in and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I would say even a less than thorough completionist could easily squeeze 180 hours from this game and barely be halfway through. There is a LOT to do, but it's extremely varied. While there is crafting, cooking, designing, friendship leveling, fishing, there's also puzzles and other head scratchers as well as platforming adjacent challenges too. And not everything is open to do right away. The game keeps pleasantly surprising me with new mechanics and interesting places and abilities. There's one mechanic I won't spoil that I think is handled better than in any comparable game. It’s got the best multi-player of any cozy game I have ever played, hands down. Plenty to do, plenty to keep you having fun. Spent half the day today with my wife’s boyfriend leveling up our friendship. It was a ton of fun. Honestly I was just looking forward to an alternate universe AC, but I would say that this is everything anyone could want from AC with about fifty more things on top of it that all work well together. I have never had this much fun in a cozy game. Not to mention, the game doesn't abuse the online requirements just to simply progress the game, not even one single mission needs online unlike AC. With HKIA, there is no need for online objectives and more importantly, the quests are straight forward. Even though you have to wait for another day to gift the Hello Kitty characters and Retsuko more stuff, at least the grind is straightforward and not too much of a time killer. This truly is the direction AC needs to step forward into when it comes to improving and being fair to players of both sides. I honestly couldn’t go back to AC after this game. There’s so much to do I actually felt overwhelmed by how much there is, but in a good way. Just don't rush! You don’t have to do anything ASAP to enjoy it or play every day. There are event items you could miss but they will be available again next year, the deluxe items are definitely nice to have but you can earn all of it ingame. I mean if you are in a race to complete things faster than someone else it could be a disadvantage not playing every day, but if not you just complete the quests as they come, no issues with taking your time. Right now this game is my current obsession, task-based gameplay is the best thing for me, and the fact that you need to wait to the next day to progress is amazing imo since I'm not very fond of binging and it keeps me more motivated to play it. It’s the perfect game to wind down with before bed. I like that it forces me to only play a little at a time so I can do my lil tasks and then go to sleep. Also it's hella cute and the dialogue options are hilarious. I especially like that some of the bigger quest lines have some really sweet stories. I also love how silly the Gudetama are with their little butts. it’s leaps and bounds better than AC. It’s much more interactive with much more to do. Including quests from friends and friendship levels. The only thing you can’t do is terraform and that you can abuse time travel in AC but not in this. So you either wait for the next days shops, or find people online to visit their shops. Time traveling will “break your game” in the sense that it'll take away your multiplayer option. Early game may seem cumbersome and short lived but l assure you - there is a lot in store. This is an 8gb game, but, without getting spoilery there are at least 3 other "map" areas that you will unlock eventually that are large with new resources and mechanics. And a lot of post story content that is not event based. I really do love this game, I could really go on and on about the game. There are some issues I have but really they're inconveniences, but imo they're just a lot of early game inconveniences that resolve themselves the further you get into the game, so it's just progression based. I do feel some quests are very overly simplified. Talk here and talk to someone over there. 2 minute quests. And, admittedly, there are quests that force you to do it multiple days. Not the baking or potion ones but when you unlock the next big area you talk to chococat and he basically goes "oh that's cool. We'll check it out tomorrow" and you're locked out of progressing in the area and then to progress further in there you have to do a quest with my Melody and then you have to check in day by day to unlock the next level but by watering the plant it only grows a little each day, so you don't unlock that same day either and have to wait days for that too which was... frustrating since I'm on day 2 with no progression in this area while seeing items I so desperately want just out of reach lol. The game isn't finished yet but it truly does have the amount of hours of gameplay as promised, it will be divided daily though. There’s been a big backlash surrounding the game being real time locked for some stuff but again for me I don't mind it. Despite that, there's tons of content that you can play without that restraint, and to be fair if you like taking games slowly you probably won't even notice it. If going by 1$ per hour of gameplay the game is indeed worth it. Overall this game is brilliant. The characters are freaking adorable, the content updates are constant, and there is always something to do. Yes, you could say it’s repetitive, because everything involves gathering items, fishing, crafting, etc, but that is why I am here! Even if you aren't a Hello Kitty or Sanrio fan give this one a shot! It’s great! 10/10

222 hours and 52 achievements later… My cabin? Immaculate. My outfits? Unmatched. My grip on reality? Questionable. Still grinding for that one achievement. Probably locked behind emotional growth. I’ve built bridges. I’ve made friends. I’ve overwatered more flowers than I care to admit. I’ve cried at a picnic. I’ve celebrated a frog’s birthday. But Milk’s still missing, and I’m not sure if it’s part of the game or a metaphor for life. But I’m not stopping until I find out. If you want to live in a world where everything is cute and nothing matters, this is it. Perfect for unwinding and pretending you don’t have responsibilities.

World of Warcraft lost hugely and it's really quite sad... if only Jason Hall was still on the dev team they might have stood a chance against the greatest online sensation of this generation.

Honestly, this game’s a total blast if you’re into online shooters. The shooting feels really good and crisp and each gun actually feels different. It’s super easy to sink hours into, especially with a squad. There’s a bit of lag sometimes, but nothing that ruins the fun.
