They somehow managed to intruduce a bug into the game where your Sims refuse to interact with cooked food, if you cook something it despawns as soon as they're done and if you try to eat a meal from someone who hasnt been infected yet your Sim will just teleport away as soon as he sits down.
The only way to feed them is chips and fast food but I'm playing this game to escape reality not to reenact it alright.

No fixes or anything, just a cashgrab rerelease
What a joke.. This trash for the 25th anniversary?
It shows EA has put as much effort and quality into this as anything they have for years now, meaning nothing
Sims 1 crashes when you alt tab out of it, and doesn't even have more setting options..
Sims 2 still launches in 800x600? Are you serious?
They didn't even bother adding a borderless mode which no way would have taken them ages to make..
And... out of all the things they added... Denuvo Anti-Tamper?
Is Sims 2 Legacy just a copy of Ultimate Collection that was given away for FREE? BUT WITH ANTI-PIRACY!?
I hope no one buys this trash, I'm going to play inZOI and Paralives instead
you made me very very unhappy

Stop the misinformation, please.
You can change the resolution in the settings, yes even 2k and 4k.
The UI scaling is changed so it doesn't become smaller on resolutions higher than 1080p.
FPS are capped at 60 only in full screen, but you can go windowed mode with alt+enter. And then use borderless with external programs.
Yes, the IKEA pack is missing, but it's extremely easy to install it back.
99% of the mods and CC still work. With a "but", read below.
Save files from other versions also work.
The shadows are fixed, NOT disabled, but actually fixed.
They didn't steal the Graphics Rules Maker fixes (yes, I checked the files, the changes are different). It's harder to check if the shadow fix is stolen, so idk.
They also did the 4GB thing to the exe.
The Denuvo and EQ App requirements tags were both mistakenly added and it's been fixed now. The game launches offline just fine, and there isn't any protection in the installation files either.
Ok, I think that addresses all the lies I've read so far. HOWEVER, I'm not saying the game is perfect, far from it. Yes, they fixed some stuff, but there are a lot of issues unaddressed, including crashes by various reasons and pink flashing, and there are even a few problems that weren't before (they patched most of these already, but there are still some).
So in short, is it worth it? If you already have the Ultimate Collection working, then no, it doesn't add much beyond the essential fixes. Unless you really want to play at 4k, I guess. If you never played the game before, then I recomment it. I mean, it really doesn't matter if you play this edition or another one, they all have issues, but I think the game is still worth playing.
I'll give a few tips as well about common issues:
DISABLE ONEDRIVE, it can mess up with your save files, deleting stuff or restoring old files. This will cause Sims or objects to disappear, graphic settings to reset, and stuff like that.
If the game doesn't open at all, it's probably because of your screen doesn't support 60Hz mode, so full screen won't work at all. You have to force windowed mode (or borderless) for the game to work.
About the mod compatibility, there are many that depend on IKEA items. Once you install them, most "normal" mods (those that are intalled in the Downloads folder) will work. The only exception I've seen is the community time project.
As for mods with special installations, I've tested the CEP and the Scriptorium, they work if you follow the manual installation instructions. Automatic installer won't work because the game has a different file structure.
The RPC Launcher doesn't work at all, but the creator already released some of the features here: https://github.com/LazyDuchess/TS2-Extender/releases/tag/0.3.0

It worked fine at first, but around 14 hours of game time some really weird stuff started to happen, the worst one being my family's kid disappearing, and being replaced by non-existing dog. Jokes aside and despite the mixed reviews, I'm really glad they ported this to steam. Haven't encountered any problems so far and I enjoy the game for its nostalgia (it has a very special place in my heart). Still, I hope they continue to patch the game and address the issues for those who have problems. From what I've heard, It also seems to be lacking the IKEA Home Stuff and songs and etc. due to some license issues although it still can be fixable by some mods.31 votes funny

This is the Sims 2 as we love it and as we left it more than a decade ago. Yes, literally. No improvement whatsoever, just a quick fix.
I know, it's a re-release, NOT a remaster, NOT an HD edition, so technically they didn't lie nor fooled anyone. It's the same Sims 2 game we left, but fixed to work on modern computers. Well, "fixed" is an overstatement, they just added some patches so the game runs correctly. They didn't even fix the shadows bug, they just... greyed out the option. No more shadows. So yeah, "fixed it".
This screams "lazy cash grab" and honestly ? It hurts. I know it's not a remaster, but I wish we have more stuff than just "hey, let's make y'all pay for a quick compatibility fix that you could get on the internet for free, from fans that actually care cause we obviously don't". I know I shouldn't complain because we finally those great games back but... there's literally no quality of life improvement, at all.
Thankfully The Sims 2 still holds itself it terms of gameplay and features. But it's clearly not the same for The Sims 1... I don't mind paying, but at least make me pay for something. Give me a reason why I paid again, after I paid all those years for expansions packs, for all those games. Just give me one good reason to give money to EA again. There's none. I love The Sims franchise, but I'll forever hate EA's greed.
This ? This should be free or at least less than 5€ for the amount of "work" they've done. I wouldn't be surprised if they just stole fan's fixes for the game.
What really gets on my nerve is that they literally just using our nostalgia. They did nothing for us fans. They never do. They just take our money and we somehow keep giving it to them. I'm done, EA. That's the last time you ever get money from me. I already paid this game multiple times, through multiples DECADES and I really wanted to believe in you, one last time. I believed you could deliver something nice for once but I guess that's on me for ever expecting anyting remotely good from you, EA. You're the opposite of Midas. You turn gold into crap.
edit : to everyone telling me "you're complaining about nothing, it's just 20 bucks", I'd like to remind all of you that The Sims 2 Ultimate edition, which included ALL expansions packs and ALL kits, including Ikea stuff (which is missing here) was totally FREE, for YEARS. So this is just a glorified 20$ update that should've been free, or at least very cheap and clearly not worth 20 bucks. You're not paying for the Sims 2 game and its add-ons, you're paying for an overpriced update. If you're fine with it, go ahead and have fun. Personally, I'm not a fan of being scammed nor funding scammers.
Oh and BTW, Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition was released 5 years ago, for 20 bucks. Here's what Microsoft added to AOE3 for the same price :
"The remaster includes new 4K Ultra HD graphics, rebuilt 3D assets, improved destruction animations on buildings, a spectator mode, an overhauled and scalable UI, mod support, new server-based online multiplayer with cross-network play, new maps, and remastered sounds and music. It features two new civilizations, the Incas and the Swedes, along with two new game modes, The Art of War and Historical Battles. It includes all previous expansions from the original game (The WarChiefs, The Asian Dynasties)"
All of that for 20 bucks. Fixes, patches, QOL improvements and new content. EA didn't bother and y'all guys bow for them, saying they're fair ? Really ? Open your eyes. If it's not a remaster, why is it priced like one ?

The game does not require EA Play and it doesn't use Denuvo. Pressing Alt+Enter will enter windowed mode. There's no windowed borderless built into the game but Borderless Gaming on Github lets you play the game in borderless.
The Denuvo notice was included on the 25th Birthday Bundle by mistake, and the EA Play requirement only applies to The Sims 4 since you get two Sims 4 kits for buying the bundle.
Anyway. Time to rack up 1,000 hours.

As you can see from my playtime, revisiting this game was a nice hit of nostalgia. But honestly, those feelings only lasted for about one or two hours at a time before I got bored and stopped playing. The game just doesn’t do a great job of keeping your attention for long sessions, after about 20 minutes you’ve basically seen everything it has to offer. The expansions are nice in theory, but each one has at least one major drawback that makes you try it once and never touch it again. For example, the university takes so long to complete that it turns into a chore instead of something fun. And even with the patches the game is still extremely crash-prone. It doesn’t matter what settings I use or whether I’m playing on Windows or Linux with Proton, it’ll crash without warning and I’ll lose all my progress.
If you have fond memories of playing The Sims 2 as a kid, my advice is to keep it that way. Let it stay a good childhood memory, because unfortunately, it really doesn’t hold up today.

honestly, shame on me for actually hoping the game is optimized for the newer PCs and getting excited about this release.
I didn't know you can release a 20 year old game worse than it was before.
the constant crashes, directX error, 800x600 resolution at the start (and yes, I've set up the rules in the graphic rules file), you name it, I've got it.
the game launches each time like it's the first time I ever launch it - the saved game is there but CC checkbox is unchecked, the graphic settings are back to lowest default possible and the tips are popping up which is very annoying.
besides that, the quality of the voices is really bad, the sims sound super compressed.
what else? oh yes, the bugs like disappearing food after cooking, the sim resetting every time they try to sit at the table, the broken alien abduction when the sim just walks away and nothing happens, the graphic settings just unset autimatically right after setting them... the list is effing huge.
waste of money, stick to the ultimate collection if you got it from EA App.
I haven't got one so I HOPED this would be a nice trip down the memory lane. EA, right

They should have just left this game as rotting abandonware. It's genuinely unplayable, has consistent crashes, some with no error messages at all. It's ass, simply put. Disgusting greedy company.

Sul sul!

There's a fun little minigame when I launch it, there's a chance I either get to play the game or restart my computer. Aside from that, it works slightly better than it did back in the day. You get what is mostly advertised.

Fuck EA for selling themselves to trumps son-in-law. Don't support EA any further since clearly the only people they care for are straight christian racists.

Crashed 2 times on start up, loading times are crazy long for a game thats 20 years old, pressing "Q" prompts a pop up from the garden dlc that led to another crash when interacting with it. refund issued.
just go and pirate the game instead, if they cant manage to get a 20(!!!) year old game to run smoothly they dont deserve the money

Unlike a lot of people i'm not having any crashes.
Instead my sims are unable to eat any food. Plates vanish from their hands. My Sim will teleport out of the dining room chair. Try playing this Sims 2 and surviving off snacks and instant meals.
EA this game is 25 years old there is no reason a relaunch should be this bad.

honestly, shame on me for actually hoping the game is optimized for the newer PCs and getting excited about this release.
EA, right

The amount of bugs STILL in this game is unacceptable. Any amount of play testing would have revealed this. The company should have spent time fixing this first, instead of rolling patches out after people spent their money.
